Rum and Chocolate Bundt Cake

Yesterday was my daughter’s birthday. As your kids grow older spending time together becomes difficult but some traditions always remain the same.In my family, FOOD is a part of every tradition. Today I have written about the Rum and Chocolate cake I baked for her. This is truly a very yummy cake and one of my favorites. Also surprisingly easy to make.

  • All purpose flour 1 cup
  • Baking soda 3/4 tsp
  • Salt 1/4 tsp
  • Sugar 1/2 cup (powdered)
  • Rum 1/4 cup
  • Dark chocolate (Bitter sweet) 115 gms
  • Butter (unsalted) 1/2 cup
  • Eggs 2
  • Milk as needed (I used almost 1/4 cup)
  • Vanilla essence

Sieve flour, baking soda and salt together and keep it aside.

In a deep vessel add butter and chocolate, put this vessel on another pan of hot water (double boiler) and stir to melt the chocolate mixture smoothly.
Add rum, sugar, eggs and vanilla essence to it and beat thoroughly with a hand mixer. Slowly add the flour mix to it (2 tbl spn at a time).

If you feel the batter is too thick you may add some milk as needed.

Butter your bundt pan and lightly dust with flour or cocoa powder. Fill a bit more than half of the pan with your batter.
Bake for 25 minutes in a pre heated oven till you see the center is done. Check by pricking with a pick. Let your cake rest for 10 minutes before you remove it on a cooling rack.

Your cake is ready now.

For decorating your cake with whipped cream, whip the cream with an electric beater till it becomes light enough and makes a stiff peak. I have used two different ways of decorating my cake, using whipped cream, cherries and strawberries. You too can do the same or just go crazy with your imagination and let your artistic self shine through.

Hope you all share this great recipe with your special people. Don’t forget to write your feedback! Happy Cooking 🙂

    • If you would like you could just make it a simple chocolate cake and avoid using the rum altogether. It is one of the easiest baking recipes, I would love for you to give it a try.
And I did visit your blog, great work!
